I chased a storm and cornered it in Stillwater, Minnesota on Sunday about 11:15 PM. A Catholic church and the historic, County Courthouse are in the foreground.
I wanted to shoot some photos on Wednesday, but it had been raining all day and was not likely to stop. What the heck, I decided to go anyway.
I wore waterproof hiking shoes to keep my feet dry and an umbrella plus a lens cap or handkerchief to keep my lenses dry. All those things worked well. What I didn’t plan for was slipping in the mud, falling on my back, and ending up with wet and muddy clothes. Oh well, I did get some decent photos.
Yesterday, I walked about six miles on a slow ramble through the North Hill neighborhood of Stillwater. There is an interesting old Victorian house at the corner of 3rd and School. It’s blue with white and yellow ornamentation. Yesterday it looked nice against the blue sky of the morning so I snapped a photo. Then I kept seeing colorful houses or house ornamentation in the same area so I decided I would work on taking pictures of colorful houses during my walk. There were a lot of such houses. Here are some of them. They are followed by a slide show of other sorts of pictures I took while rambling and luxuriating in the weather.
I took a long hike along the St. Croix River in Stillwater, Minnesota. For the first time I walked as far as I could south from the town up to where they are building a new bridge. The construction site was fenced off so I couldn’t go any farther. I took photos to record my hike. They show the surroundings from downtown Stillwater into the trees and brush south of the town. It was a sunny, warm day with only a few wisps of cloud and a soft, pleasant breeze. Here are scenes from my River Walk.
I’ve posted only a couple of photos since mid March. I’ve had computer problems, with both my desktop PC and my laptop; camera problems (I fell and smashed the LCD display.); I moved to new digs; and the weather has been crappy.
So here is a slide show with some of the better photos I’ve taken lately.
My photo is of the threshold (i.e. bridge) to Stillwater, Minnesota when coming from Wisconsin. Wisconsin is the bluffs in the photo’s background. Stillwater is the foreground and middle ground.
Yesterday morning it was 14 below. A lot of steaming chimneys in such cold weather. I caught one of them for my Photo Of The Day (POTD) yesterday. The POTD from the day before is of a mango lit by natural light coming through a frosted-up window. I also used a flashlight to light the front of the mango.
Today it is above freezing. Tomorrow it plunges right back into the cold, and we’ll have cold weather again next week. The same thing happened last week. Sunday had highs in the low thirties, but that was the only day of relative warmth. The temperature plunged again on Monday. What a yo-yo. Unfortunately the warmer days are few; the colder days are many.
